Medical Legal Consulting—A Helping Hand for Sports Concussion Cases

When Mike Webster, hard hitting center of the Pittsburgh Steelers and NFL hall of famer, died in 2002 of a neurodegenerative disease called chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), fellow retirees took note. Since then, over 4,500 retired players have filed suits against the NFL. Through the concerted efforts of their lawyers, medical legal consulting firms, and expert witnesses, these players were able to expose that the league intentionally hid the dangers of repeated concussions. Last July 7, 2014, a federal judge granted preliminary approval to the suit that would compensate these former players for concussion-related claims.
